Eye Examinations for All Ages
We are pleased to offer full comprehensive eye examinations for all ages starting as early as 6 months of age. Due to the nature of many eye conditions, it is recommended that parents bring their children in at this age for their first eye exam. Up to 80% of learning can be visual and as such early detection of any eye conditions can significantly improve learning in your child’s academic years.
OHIP covers annual exams for children 19 and under and adults 65 and older. Patients with diabetes are covered for annual eye examinations.
Contact Lens Evaluations and Online Reordering
We provide a full range of contact lens options in both soft and rigid gas permeable materials. Disposable lens options for single vision (both sphere and astigmatism), cosmetic colours and bifocal lenses are available.
Custom contact lenses for post surgical and trauma patients as well as conditions such as Keratoconus are also available.
We now offer a wide range of in stock soft Contact Lenses and online Contact lens reordering, including delivery right to your door. We offer contact lens options from various companies including: Johnson and Johnson, CIBA VISION, Cooper Vision and Bausch and Lomb.
As contact lenses are a medical device placed on the eye it is imperative that necessary evaluations are performed to determine the most appropriate fitting, comfort and vision for the patient. As every patient has a unique shape to the cornea, the doctor will determine the most suitable lens for each patient while determining the most accurate parameters.
Laser Vision Consultation and Follow Up Care
Every pair of eyes has a unique fingerprint. Designing a custom laser procedure specifically for your eyes is our goal. The most common procedure performed today is LASIK, which stands for Laser-Assisted in Situ Keratomileusis. This procedure involves the creation of a corneal flap that is lifted and then a cool laser is applied to remove tissue thereby correcting your vision.
Rest assured our doctors are dedicated to the highest level of care and take great pride in guiding you through the process of Laser Vision Correction. Prior to the surgery we will determine whether you are an eligible candidate and what procedure will work best for you, discuss the risks and benefits and how they will impact you specifically in your everyday working environment. After the surgical procedure, all follow up visits we will be performed at our office.
Our commitment is to you, the patient, in ensuring that we work closely with the surgical center to provide the highest level of care and experience. As affiliates of the Bochner Eye Institute, we have helped many of our patients successfully achieve a healthy customized laser vision correction.
Keratoconus Treatment
Keratoconus is a condition that causes the front part of the eye, known as the cornea, to progressively thin and steepen forming a cone shape. The latest treatment, known as Corneal Cross Linking, attempts to stabilize and strengthen the cornea. Our clinical staff is actively involved in caring for patients with Keratoconus who undergo Cross Linking and offer co-management with the surgical centers.
Cataract Surgery and Intraocular Procedures – Consultation and Follow Up Care
With the latest advancements in Cataract Surgery techniques and lens implants, there are many options available for patients. Prior to cataract surgery our doctors will guide you in selecting the best implant that suits your everyday lifestyle. Please contact our office for details.
Alternate procedures such as Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE) and Implantable Contact Lens (ICL) are used to correct high amounts of myopia and hyperopia, when Laser Vision Correction may not be appropriate. Our team of doctors is happy to guide you through which procedure is best for you.
Retinal Photography and Visual Fields
Retinal photography
Using the latest CANON digital retinal camera, we can capture images of the back of the eye. This procedure allows us to detect and monitor subtle changes in the retina that may indicate the onset of certain eye diseases or medical conditions. We believe in early detection and using the latest technology to monitor progression. Most insurance companies will now cover this service. Please ask our staff to request this service at the onset of the exam.
Visual Fields
Humphrey-HFAII-iWith over 25 years of research, design and clinical experience, the Humphrey® Field Analyzer (HFA™) is the gold standard of care in glaucoma diagnosis and management. If the doctor determines that you may be at risk for glaucoma, the doctor will request this test to be performed.

Should specialist care be required, we can facilitate a referral to the appropriate ophthalmologist.
If your eye emergency occurs during office hours please phone and make the receptionist aware of the situation. Outside of office hours, we recommend that you seek care at the nearest hospital Emergency department.
Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)
At Dr. Rahim Hirji we are proud to offer Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) here in our office! This advanced, noninvasive technology is a form of retinal imaging that allows us to capture high resolution cross-sectional images. By examining the layers in the retina and measuring their thickness, we can better monitor the onset and progression of various retinal conditions and diseases. This method of testing is the standard when it comes to the assessment and treatment of these conditions, and can be completed without any patient discomfort or exposure to radiation as no x-rays are used.
Your doctor may conduct an OCT scan for a few reasons, but some of the most common include:
- To monitor the progression of your retinal condition
- To confirm or rule out swelling of the retina
- To compare current and previous scans to monitor the success of a medication or treatment
If you have questions about OCT, we are happy to help you feel comfortable and informed prior to your appointment. For more information or to schedule an appointment, contact us today at (905) 832-9300.
